The Department of Agriculture launches AgriBEE Framework

The Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs Ms Thoko Didiza will launch a framework to guide Black Economic Empowerment within the agricultural sector in Eastern Cape on Monday, 26 July 2004 in the afternoon. This framework will be a key component of implementing equitable access and participation in accordance with the South African Agricultural Sector Plan. 

According to Minister Didiza, the framework document will be launched for public discussion and a further consultation process will commence aimed at reaching a common position before the end of 2004. “I am confident that we will reach consensus among all stakeholders on this important phase of our country’s transformation”.

At the launch presentations will also be made on the empowerment experiences in other sectors and of a study undertaken by the Department on empowerment initiatives in the agriculture sector. Successful examples of Black Economic Empowerment in agriculture, and services available will also be showcased at the launch.

Following the Ministers launch the document will be made available on the Department of Agriculture’s website www.nda.agric.za; at its Resource Center at 20 Beatrix Street Pretoria and can also be requested by fax at tel no: 012-319 7141 as from Tuesday, 27 July 2004 and later in the week from provincial departments of agriculture and the Parliamentary Resource Center of the GCIS in Cape Town.
