AgriBEE Steering Committee members meet
Date: 27 January 2005
Pretoria - The AgriBEE Steering Committee members met today to consider more than 50 comments received from individuals, local associations, provinces and organisations. The Committee will from now work on a draft report, which will be submitted, to the minister at a later stage.
The Committee welcomed the overwhelming support to the framework document and also acknowledged the contentious issues, which came out of some of the comments. They include land, the implementation, skills development, procurement and financing mechanisms.
Minister Thoko Didiza launched the AgriBEE framework document on 26 July 2004 and established the AgriBEE Steering Committee to take the process further. The Committee consists of individuals from the three categories, such as organised agriculture and labour, individuals with specific critical skills or experience, as well as representatives from Government. The Committee was tasked with holding consultations with their own constituencies and invite comments.
The next Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for 28 February 2005.
