Animal Genetic Resources
ANIMAL IMPROVEMENT
is responsible for the regulation of imports and exports of genetic material, the registration of reproduction operators, collection centres and donor animals, the evaluation of new breeds and the regulation of the activities of breed societies and registration authorities.

FARM ANIMAL GENETIC RESOURCES
coordinates local and regional activities relating to the conservation and sustainable use of animal genetic resources for food and agriculture.

SADC VELD, ANIMAL PRODUCTION AND MARKETING
co-ordinates the SADC Subcommittee for Veld, Animal Production and Marketing on behalf of the livestock sector in Botswana

ANIMAL IDENTIFICATION
is responsible for the administration of the National Animal Identification legislation that provides for a central registration system where each stockowner has a unique owner-identification mark. The permanent marking of farm animals is compulsory in South Africa.
