Plant Genetic Resources

  SEED QUALITY CONTROL
aims at ensuring that physical and physiological quality of seed which is grown locally, imported or exported meets determined international norms and standards before being traded or propagated by farmers.
GENETIC CONTROL
coordinates activities relating to the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture which include management of the national gene bank as well as determination and management of norms and standards for genetically modified organisms to reduce environmental impact.
VARIETY CONTROL
is involved in evaluation of new varieties of plants and propagating material to ensure genetic authenticity as comprehensively described in accordance with internationally accepted guidelines for registration of new varieties.
PLANT GENETIC AUDITING
is responsible for deployment of auditing officers or inspectors to enforce the requirements as stipulated in the Acts administering plant genetic resources to pursue optimal utilisation of agricultural resources.
PLANT GENETIC PROMOTION
facilitates education, awareness and outreach programmes in conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture, particularly to rural communities through extension and other agencies.
