The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Tina Joemat-Pettersson together with the Office of the Premier of the Free State, Mr Ace Magashule congratulated the winners of the Female Farmer of the Year on Saturday at the evening gala dinner in Bloemfontein. The two were joined by Ms Zodwa Manase, Chairperson of the board of the platinum sponsor, Total SA.

The prizes were awarded in the following categories:

Top Producer for Household Consumption, Backyard Garden went to Ms Nkhensane Susan Maswanganye from Limpopo. Top Producer Household Consumption, Communal Garden was awarded to Tswelelang Pele Bomme Vegetable Project from the Free State Province.

The category of Top Producer for Informal Markets the prize went to Ms Maria Malan from the Northern Cape Province whilst Top Producer for National Markets prize went to Ms Nonie Moliehi Mokose from Gauteng Province.

The Export Market prize was awarded to Lema Intensive Farming Venture of the Free State Province. This project also scooped the Female Farmer of the Year 2009.
This was the last Female Farmer of the year where the spotlight was only on agriculture, next year the new competition will include forestry and fisheries..
